Yeongseo Son (2022-)

Yeongseo is a third-year Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Genetics major at the University of Georgia. She plans to earn her master’s degree in Comparative Biomedical Sciences through the UGA’s DoubleDawgs program and pursue a career in research. Her previous research experiences involve assisting at a toxicology lab in University of Connecticut and attending Science and Engineering Research Academy at University of California Santa Barbara. At UGA, Yeongseo works on the mechanism that regulate the release of neutrophil elastase from human neutrophils, a project with relevance to cystic fibrosis lung disease.

Gavin Thomas Paul (2023-)

Gavin is a third-year biology major at the University of Georgia in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. He plans to pursue a career in medicine by applying to medical school in the spring of 2024. In the laboratory, Gavin works on projects related to cystic fibrosis, with a focus on studying the effects of neutrophils and their ability to produce neutrophil elastase and kill bacteria.

Areeb Khan (2023-)

Areeb is a second-year biomedical physiology major at the University of Georgia, on the pre-med track. Areeb has experience conducting biology education research at the UGA Department of Pharmacy & Pharmacology, and has also completed a study investigating the travel patterns of urology residents, in conjunction with the Medical College of Georgia. In addition, Areeb has completed a project with the Emory University School of Medicine in a study analyzing the effects of skin cancer on depression severity, and has been invited to attend a cancer research showcase at the University of Florida. In the Rada Lab, Areeb works on the Klebsiella pneumoniae project, studying the effect of hypothiocyanite on this bacterium. After obtaining promising results in vitro system, Areeb has moved on to in vivo testing of the protocol. Areeb has also been accepted into the St. Jude Pediatric Oncology undergraduate research summer program in 2024 summer.

Julia Frances Gianelli (2023-)

Julia joined the laboratory in her second year at the University of Georgia and is now a third-year biology major in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. She is also working towards a Spanish minor. In the laboratory, she works on projects which test the effectiveness of hypothiocyanite on multiple stains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, a major human pathogen also infecting the airways of patients suffering from cystic fibrosis. Julia plans to pursue a career in medicine and will apply to medical school in the Spring of 2024.
